While we still have dreams of an Empire Records style, last-minute fundraiser in the street, complete with kegs, garage rock and adorable elderly ladies with curlers in their hair, we're going a bit, well, classier, for our first two-day art and performance market to help raise funds for our mission. Don't despair - we'll likely be writing "damn the man, save the empire" for The MiA Project block party before you know it.
To close out the year, and our first few months in existence, we're hosting a weekend of immersion into American art, objects and performances. Proceeds after event costs go to building our community series and Badge program, locally and nationally.
**Saturday evening (5-8) will feature poetry and stories by Poem Store.
**Saturday night's performances (roughly 7:30) will kick off with a duet performed by Gabriella Vincenza Cataldo and Arne Gjelten, choreographed by Jasmine Albuquerque of WIFE
**Saturday night (8-9) will close with a special performance by Wardell, Roc Nation's brother & sister duo Sasha & Theo Spielberg.
**Sunday night (6-6:30) will close with a musical performance by Marina V, an award-winning, Russian-born singer who first came to America at the age of 15 to pursue the "American dream". Her voice has been described by the Los Angeles Times as "hauntingly beautiful".
These events are open to the public and free for kids and pets. (We highly recommend you stop by the Echo Park Craft Fair first Saturday and Sunday.)
